The author and translator of international bestseller 'DallerGut Dream Department Store' will join us via video-link for a discussion about their captivating work, as part of the Korean Culture Month programme at Foyles.

Miye Lee was born in Busan in 1990. After graduating from the Busan National University School of Materials Science and Engineering, she worked as a semiconductor engineer at Samsung Electronics. Her debut novel DallerGut Dream Department Store, published entirely funded through a crowdfunding service in Korea in 2020, has gone on to become an international bestseller. Return to the DallerGut Dream Department Store, will be published this November.

Sandy Joosun Lee is a Korean-to-English translator based in Seoul. She studied Literature/Writing in University of California, San Diego. Her translations include Won-pyung Sohn's Almond and Miye Lee’s DallerGut Dream Department Store duology. She also works in animation, translating and developing animated content, including The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf and Star Wars: Visions (2023). She is a member of the translator collective Smoking Tigers.

This event will be chaired by Eugene Kim, translator and Korean Lecturer at Kingston University. She is an editor-in-chief at Nabillera: Contemporary Korean Literature magazine. One of her recent translations, My Itchy Middle Finger, won the Overseas Publishing Grant from Literature Translation Institution of Korea (LTI) in 2021.
