What is Parents’ Day in Korea?
Parents' Day in Korea is a cherished annual celebration held on 8 May each year. The celebration goes beyond simply honouring mothers and fathers; it serves as a valuable opportunity to delve into the rich tapestry of Korean traditional virtues, fostering intergenerational understanding and appreciation. Parents' Day embodies the spirit of filial piety, strengthening family bonds and promoting unity within Korean society.
Filial Piety: The Cornerstone of Korean Values
At the heart of traditional Korean virtues lies filial piety, known as "효도" (hyodo). This deeply ingrained concept emphasizes respect, obedience, and devotion to one's parents and elders. Parents' Day embodies this virtue, providing a platform to express gratitude and reaffirm the importance of filial piety within Korean society.
Carnation Craft Event
This family event of carnation making is an opportunity to showcase Korean traditional virtues while experiencing the joy of creating Korean crafts. Carnations symbolise love and devotion and so are fitting gifts for Parents' Day, making this event a meaningful way to celebrate the occasion.
