Lotus flower is a sacred icon in Buddhism, and its root also features prominently in Buddhist texts. Known for its medicinal properties of dissolving blood clots and preventing heart diseases and stroke, lotus root is one of the most important ingredients for making winter temple food.

Ingredients

  • 300g Lotus root
  • 2 Tbsp Crushed sesame seeds
  • Vegetable oil

Seasoning

  • 2 Tbsp Soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp Jocheong(grain syrup)
  • 3 Tbsp Water

Method

  1. Wash lotus root thoroughly, peel them, slice the lotus root into 1cm-thick sizes. Mix the seasonings together.
  2. Grease vegetable oil on the pan, stir-fry the sliced lotus root on medium heat (5 out of 10).
  3. Once the lotus root is golden brown, turn the heat to medium-high(8), and pour seasoning mixture on the pan. Once it boils, remove it from heat and sprinkle with crushed sesame seeds.
