Shim Chung presents a poignant retelling of one of Korea’s most beloved folktales, performed by the Universal Ballet Company.

This neoclassical ballet tells the story of a devoted daughter who sacrifices herself to restore her blind father’s sight. By the grace of the Jade Emperor, she returns to the world in a lotus blossom and is joyfully reunited with her father—a tale of love, sacrifice, and redemption.

Premiered in 1986, Shim Chung has become a signature work in the Universal Ballet Company’s repertoire. With choreography by founding artistic director Adrienne Dellas, the production continues to evolve through refined staging, movement, and costume design.

A defining work of Korean ballet, Shim Chung offers a powerful blend of tradition, grace, and enduring emotion.
