Do Ho Suh made of previous works in response to the architecture of Christ Church Spitalfields, shown on a loop. The videos put forward the idea of transience as both a sustained emotional state and an act of self-discovery.

The works show dwellings in which Suh, his family, friends and team resided, filmed as if they were located in a single apartment block that continuously varies in style and structure. The video installation is placed in the central space of the church’s nave, where a variety of architectural details are evident, from Gothic to Classic architecture, to Venetian and Victorian stained glass windows and Tuscan columns.

The project is co-produced by Art Night and the KCCUK, with venue support from Christ Church Spitalfields.

Art Night is a free contemporary arts festival that transforms London for one night. Each year, a leading cultural institution and curator explore a different part of London for the festival. Art Night 2017 is a collaboration with the Whitechapel Gallery, curated by Fatoş Üstek and taking over the East End with 11 artists’ projects that draw on the area’s rich history, culture and architecture. The festival is supported by international auction house Phillips, and receives public funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
