To mark the start of Korea-UK Season 2017-18, the V&A presents a special display titled ‘Contemporary Korean Ceramics’ from 19 May 2017 to 11 February 2018 in the Ceramics Galleries.

The ceramics display will be accompanied by the first Korean ceramics residency at the V&A from 1 October 2017 to 31 March 2018. Multi-awarded young Korean ceramic artist, Kim Juree (also part of the display), will collaborate with Neil Brownsword, a British ceramic artist, who was recently awarded the Grand Prize at the Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale in Korea in 2015.

‘Contemporary Korean Ceramics’ brings together works by 15 emerging and established artists from Korea to offer a range of insights into the richness of contemporary Korean studio ceramic practice. The display originated with the Fondation d’entreprise Bernardaud and their guest curator Hyeyoung Cho, and is organised and curated for the V&A by Dr Rosalie Kim, Samsung Curator of Korean Art. ‘Contemporary Korean Ceramics’ celebrates the many channels of expression in contemporary Korean ceramics today. Some works relate to current issues in Korean society, whilst others re-interpret tradition or experiment with different making techniques. The display also features the V&A’s recent acquisitions of Korean ceramics made possible with support from Samsung.
