Performer

Pianist Yoon Chung has performed throughout Europe, Japan, Korea and the United States. In the UK, he has appeared in prestigious venues including the Wigmore Hall, South Bank Centre, Kings Place, St. John’s, Smith Square, Bridgewater Hall, St. James’s Piccadilly, and Waterfront Hall. His performances have been broadcast in France, Japan, the United States and Korea, most recently in a live television broadcast of Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto on KBS (Korea).

Born in Seoul, Korea, Yoon spent his formative years in London as a scholar at the Purcell School of Music studying with Maria Curcio and Mark Swartzentruber. He holds degrees from the University of Bristol and the Royal Northern College of Music, where he garnered numerous prizes including Sir Charles Hallé Award, Sir John Barbirolli Prize, Norman George Duo Prize and the Clifton Helliwell Prize for the highest distinction in Postgraduate Diploma and Professional Performance Diploma (PPRNCM). His studies at RNCM were supported by a Royal Schools of Music Postgraduate Scholarship, an Else and Leonard Cross Memorial Scholarship and the MBF.

Yoon was chosen as a Joel Estes Tate Scholar and Meadows Artistic Scholar to pursue further studies under the tutelage of Professor Joaquín Achúcarro at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, USA. During his time in the United States, Yoon won the Von Mickwitz Prize and was subsequently featured in the Meadows Rising Stars Series. He made an appearance at the Meyerson Symphony Center in a televised concert, and performed at the Steinway Hall, Meadows Museum and the Dallas Museum of Art.

A versatile musician with an avid interest in chamber music, Yoon is a founder member of Trio Andante and served as a vocal coach and collaborative pianist at the University of Texas (UTA) and Southern Methodist University as well as the Amalfi Coast Opera Festival in Italy. Yoon was also invited to the Villecroze Academie, IMS Prussia Cove, the Van Cliburn Institute and has worked in public masterclasses with Stephen Kovacevich, Stephen Hough, Ferenc Rados, Arnaldo Cohen, Jean-François Heisser, Yo-Yo Ma, Kathryn Stott, Dina Joffe, Renna Kellaway and György Sebok.

Yoon Chung is now based in London and gratefully receives the continued guidance of Ferenc Rados in Budapest. His debut recording, Schubert: Late Piano Works D.946 and D.958, was released in December, 2013. Yoon is represented by Ellison & Strømsholm International Artists’ Management.
