The Korean Cultural Centre UK successfully held the traditional performing arts workshop ‘Hold Korea in My Heart’ on 24–25 February 2026, in collaboration with the National Namdo Gugak Center, with support from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE).

Over the two-day programme, participants explored key elements of Korean traditional performing arts through hands-on sessions in ‘Hojok Sinawi Dance’ and ‘Samulnori’. The programme offered an immersive introduction to the ways rhythm, movement, and sound come together in Korean traditional performance, offering a deeper understanding of the structure and expressive language of gugak.

Seunghye Sun, Director of the Korean Cultural Centre UK, said:
“Korean traditional arts reflect an aesthetic in which nature, the world, and people are closely connected. We hope that through the vibrant rhythms and breathing patterns of Namdo gugak, participants were able to experience the lively spirit and energy that lie at the heart of Korean culture.”

The workshop formed part of the ‘Touring K-Arts’ programme, a global cultural exchange programme supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and KOFICE. The programme brings Korean artists and cultural practitioners to international audiences, creating opportunities for direct engagement with Korean arts and traditions.

The Korean Cultural Centre UK will continue to introduce the richness of Korean traditional performing arts to audiences in the UK, while fostering meaningful cultural exchange and dialogue.
