The Korean Cultural Centre UK is thrilled to present the film "My Mother, the Mermaid" (2004) as part of the K-Film Academy's educational programme focusing on Korean cinema and special lectures, scheduled for April 4th.

As a segment of the 'Film and Women' program under the K-Film Academy, the KCCUK aims to offer deeper insights to Korean film enthusiasts in the UK by transcending the stereotypical portrayal of women characters in Korean cinema and exploring complex and multidimensional female characters who defy conventions.

Released in 2004 and directed by Park Heung-sik, "My Mother, the Mermaid" features acclaimed actresses Jeon Do-youn, Park Hae-il, and Ko Doo-shim. The film depicts the story of Na-young (played by Jeon Do-youn), who encounters her mother Yeon-soon (also played by Jeon Do-youn) in her twenties. As Na-young becomes a catalyst for fulfilling her mother's first love with Jin-guk, the film delves into the events that unfold, marking it as a masterpiece among Korean films released in 2004.

Furthermore, "A Princess’ One-Sided Love,"(1967) directed by Choi Eun-hee, has been invited to the 5th London Queer East Film Festival from April 17th to 28th. After being screened online by the Korean Cultural Centre UK in 2021, this will be the first time UK audiences will have the opportunity to experience the film in theatres. Eunji Lee, a film curator at KCCUK, will introduce the film at ICA on April 19th, 2024.
