The Korean Cultural Centre UK (KCCUK) in collaboration with Birkbeck University, London, will host the ‘K-Film Academy’ event from June 21 (Friday) to July 10 (Wednesday). This event will showcase a series of Korean documentary films.

The screenings will feature 11 curated Korean films under the theme of ‘Ma-eum’ . The films will be shown at the KCCUK and the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA), providing a unique opportunity for British audiences to engage with Korean cinema.

The special screening series will commence on June 21 (Friday) with a lecture on Korean documentaries by Professor Kim Ji-hoon from Chung-Ang University. This will be followed by two short films screenings, including a lecture linked to the newly published book "Activism and Post-activism: Korean Documentary Cinema, 1981-2022" by Oxford University Press. The screenings will feature Kim Dong-won's "Sanggye-dong Olympics" (1988) and Jeong Yeo-reum's short film "Graeae: A Stationed Idea " (2020).

The programme has been curated by students from Birkbeck University's Master's programme in Film Curating. After each screening, there will be open discussions where students and audiences can engage in conversations about the film selection process. This event, part of the newly established ‘K-Film Academy,’ aims to nurture future experts in Korean cinema and foster in-depth discussions and research among British audiences.
