Jogakbo Workshop
The Korean Cultural Centre UK (KCCUK) held a Jogakbo Workshop on Friday, 27 February, as part of its K-Creative Sessions. This event offered UK citizens a unique opportunity to experience the beauty and cultural significance of jogakbo, the traditional Korean patchwork.
Director Seunghye Sun of the KCCUK remarked, “Jogakbo begins with the simple act of stitching together leftover scraps of fabric, yet it embodies the spirit of moderation, consideration, and the wisdom of sustaining life. Just as small pieces come together to create a harmonious whole, a new beauty is born when diverse cultures and people meet and share their unique visions with one another.
Beyond a mere craft activity, the "Jogakbo Workshop" was designed as an educational session to explore the creativity embedded within Korea's traditional culture and history in an engaging way. Under the guidance of instructor Hyekyung Choi, the workshop shared the fascinating narratives behind jogakbo and offered a deep-dive into Korean heritage through interactive dialogues.
Through its K-Creative Sessions, the KCCUK continues to promote Korean traditional culture and history to UK audiences through diverse events. The Centre is committed to fostering closer connections with the UK public by presenting innovative programs that highlight Korean culture and inspire future cultural conversations.
